Financing an asset: whom should you contact?

To finance an asset or project, start with the amount, use of funds, term and repayment source. A private bank or specialist lender can then assess the case against its criteria. The right contact depends on the need, not just your wealth.

Why describe the project before asking for a rate?

A property purchase, temporary liquidity need and investment in a business do not necessarily require the same assessment. Specify the intended borrower, country, currency, amount sought and date when funds would be needed.

Separate the desired timetable from commitments already made. Ask what needs confirmation before signing an obligation that depends on financing. A commercial discussion or estimate is not credit approval.

Private bank or specialist lender: must you choose immediately?

Not necessarily. Your bank may be an initial contact if it already knows your circumstances; another provider may be consulted for a need within its scope. Ask each which assets, countries, borrowers and amounts it can consider before sending a detailed file.

A Lombard loan is one example of financing secured by an investment portfolio: UBS Luxembourg describes this option in its offering. This does not mean it suits your project. Eligible collateral, risks and terms must be assessed with the lender.

What should you ask about collateral and repayment?

Ask which assets would be pledged, how their value is monitored and what happens if it falls. Request an explanation of situations that could lead to additional collateral requirements or early repayment. Also compare the debt currency with the currency of expected repayment resources.

Explain your intended repayment source to the lender and ask how it assesses delays or changes to the project. Keeping your investments does not remove borrowing costs or risks.

What should you prepare for an initial contact?

One page is enough to begin: project purpose, country, indicative amount, timeframe and main question. Keep supporting documents for the professional’s secure channel. With your agreement, Charles can introduce your enquiry and coordinate a discussion; he does not negotiate the loan or decide its rate or approval.
